Watergate figure to testify on Bush

WASHINGTON, March 30 (UPI) -- Sen. Russell Feingold, D-Wis., has tapped a key Watergate figure, John Dean, to testify at a hearing on censuring President George W. Bush.

Feingold's resolution to censure Bush over warrantless surveillance of U.S. citizens has found little support from his own party. Only two Democratic members of the Senate -- Tom Harkin of Iowa and Barbara Boxer of California -- have agreed to support it.

Dean was a witness more than 30 years ago at Senate hearings on the Watergate scandal that led to impeachment proceedings against former President Richard Nixon. The author of a book about the Bush administration called "Worse Than Watergate," Dean wrote a recent op-ed piece comparing Bush's and Nixon's use of warrantless wiretapping, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

Feingold has also invited Bruce Fein -- a former Reagan administration official and a constitutional lawyer who testified at a hearing on National Security Administration surveillance that he believes eavesdropping on U.S. citizens without a court order is illegal.

Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., chairman of the Judiciary Committee, called the hearing. He opposes censure.
