Costa Rica election results still on hold

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Costa Rica has completed the recount of its presidential election though no new leader has been named, La Prensa Libre reported Friday.

The balloting completed two weeks ago showed former President and Nobel Prize laureate Oscar Arias had defeated Otton Solis by less than 0.5 percent of the votes counted.

Arias won the 1987 Nobel Peace Prize for his role leading talks to end civil wars in El Salvador and Nicaragua.

A recount gave Arias with 1.1 percent more of the votes that Solis, making it the most closely contested presidential race in Costa Rica's recent history.
