WASHINGTON, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- Al-Arabiya has aired a new tape of Osama bin Laden's top aide, Ayman al-Zawahiri, praising the Taliban and its fight in Afghanistan.
Fox News reports U.S. officials are analyzing the tape and say there's no reason to doubt it's authentic. Coalition forces unseated the Taliban government in 2001, and in recent months supporters of the former government have been increasing their attacks.
Fox News said the tape does not contain any references to current events so there's no way to determine when it was made.
On the 30-second tape, al-Zawahiri praised Taliban attacks against coalition forces in Afghanistan.
"Muslims ... still control large parts of eastern and southern Afghanistan and are carrying out consistent guerilla war ...," al-Zawahiri said.
