Rabin's death remembered

TEL AVIV, Israel, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Israel marked the tenth anniversary of the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin Friday.

At a ceremony in the square in which Rabin was shot dead on November 4, 1995, the former head of the Shin Bet security service blasted the Rabin family for hijacking the identity of the slain leader.

Ami Ayalon said the family had commandeered the memory of a public figure and kept him as a private persona. He said most of the public was alienated from the slain leader and his memory, Ha'aretz reported.

Rabin's sister, Rachel Ya'akov, said Israeli society was much worse off now than it was before his death.

"We didn't learn any lessons," she told Ha'aretz during a graveside ceremony attended by friends, family and Labor Party politicians.
