Qureia won't resign over security concerns

GAZA, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia Wednesday rejected a parliament request to resign to pave the way for the formation of a new government.

Speaking after a Cabinet meeting, Qureia said "we have no time between now and the general elections to form a new government."

Parliament called last week on President Mahmoud Abbas to appoint a new government accusing the present administration of failing to curb rampant insecurity and chaos in Palestinian territories.

In the meantime, gunmen kidnapped two foreign journalists, a Briton and an American, in Khan Younis in south Gaza Wednesday. Interior Ministry spokesman Toufic Abu Khosa said Palestinian police started an investigation into the incident.
