Judge upholds Indiana do-not-call list

INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- A federal judge has rejected a lawsuit by several non-profit organizations that claimed Indiana's "no-call" list violated free speech rights.

U.S. District Judge Sarah Evans Barker ruled the list is "content neutral," the Indianapolis Star reported.

The National Coalition of Prayer, the Kentucky-Indiana Chapter of Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police argued that the law violates the First Amendment and hurts their ability to raise funds.

The law does not bar non-profit groups from making fundraising calls to people on the list as long as the callers are volunteers or employees, but bans the use of professional fundraisers.
