FBI gets new info tech chief

WASHINGTON, May 6 (UPI) -- FBI Director Robert Mueller Friday named Louis Blazy as assistant director in charge of the Information Technology Operations Division.

The FBI said Blazy will be responsible for operating and maintaining a global information technology infrastructure in support of the bureau's administrative, intelligence and law enforcement efforts.

He also will "undertake efforts to increase the quality of services through facilitation and transition of advanced technology development efforts currently under way by organizational components within the Office of the Chief Information Officer," the bureau said.

The FBI has been criticized for problems in modernizing its computer systems.

Blazy has served in a variety of senior executive positions for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the bureau said.
