ROCHESTER, Minn., Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Former U.S. Rep. James Traficant Jr., D-Ohio, has been transferred from a federal prison in Ray Brook, N.Y., to the Federal Medical Center in Rochester, Minn.
Traficant was transferred for an undisclosed physical or mental health condition, said Carla Wilson, spokeswoman for the federal Bureau of Prisons in Washington.
She said the reason for the move was not public record, but she said the prison facility in Minnesota provides medical services for convicts suffering from "serious or chronic" mental or physical problems, reported the Youngstown (Ohio) Vindicator Monday.
Traficant was convicted of racketeering, bribery and tax evasion and was sentenced to an eight-year term in July 2002.
He had been serving his sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Ray Brook, N.Y., since March 11 and earlier was incarcerated at the Allenwood Federal Correctional Institution at White Deer, Pa.
