KIEV, Ukraine, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Political chaos in the Ukraine entered its 10th day Wednesday as parliament voted to fire Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych and form an interim government.
The country's Supreme Court entered its third day of its examination of more than 10,000 claims of voting irregularities in the Nov. 21 poll, in which Yanukovych was proclaimed a winner by a slim margin.
Supporters of liberal opposition candidate Viktor Yushchenko have been camped out in Kiev's central square in freezing temperatures since the results were announced.
Yushchenko wants to be declared the outright winner or hold another quick election to capitalize on the momentum of the street protests, CNN reported.
Wednesday, international mediators renewed efforts to defuse tensions in the country of 49 million people.
European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana arrived in Kiev Tuesday and was due to be followed Wednesday by Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski and Jan Kubis, the secretary general of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
