Fox and Bush discuss migratory accord

SANTIAGO, Chile, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Mexican President Vicente Fox and U.S. President George W. Bush Sunday met in Santiago to discuss the migratory accord and other bilateral issues.

The meeting was "very constructive and open," according to Bush, who was glad to hear that the Mexican economy is growing and generating jobs, particularly at the border, El Universal reported.

In January, Bush proposed a temporary worker visa program for undocumented Mexican workers in the United States, but the U.S. Congress has yet to address it.

Bush said that the migratory issue was one that demanded siginificant time in the meeting, the first between the two leaders after Bush's reelection this month.

"We are in a great position to build in the next two years of the Fox government and the next four years of the Bush government," Fox said.

Though Bush did not agree to a specific timeline for Congress to enact a migratory accord between the two countries, Fox later told CNN that Bush, "is willing to lead and to conduct ahead with the appropriate political timing."

"He has the will in trying to work this thing out," Fox said.
