Abbas calls for resumption of talks

GAZA, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Reacting to demands for an end to provocations, Palestine Liberation Organization Chairman Mahmoud Abbas Friday said it's time the two sides began talking.

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon Thursday urged the new Palestinian leaders to stop inciting violence against Israel and to reform the education system.

In response Palestinian Authority official Saeb Erekat said the Israeli government should also stop "its incitement policy against the Palestinian people and their leadership."

Abbas, speaking with reporters in Gaza, said that Israel also has to put its own policies in order.

"It could be that we have such issues (incitements) but the Israelis have them more than what we have," Abbas said, suggesting "the two sides can discuss the matter when peace negotiations resume."
