U.S. vote news cover Arab newspapers

BEIRUT, Lebanon, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- News of the U.S. elections competed only with the death of the UAE's president for space on the front pages of Arab newspapers Wednesday.

The high turnout at the polls and the impact of President George Bush's re-election on the Middle East were the main focus of newspaper banners and comments.

Jordan's daily al-Rai characterized the voting as "an unprecedented turnout on the polls to decide the race to the White House."

Both al-Rai and al-Dustour raised questions about the fate of Arab causesno matter whether Bush or Democratic challenger John Kerry made it to the White House

The Lebanese newspaper As-Safir called the election difficult while the Saudi daily al-Sharq al-Awsat noted in its main banner that "American youth voted extensively."
