Appeal for release of Sudan hostage

KHARTOUM, Sudan, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- The mother of a Sudanese hostage in Iraq Monday appealed to his kidnappers to spare the life of her only son.

Amina Idriss Mousa was quoted in Sudan's daily al-Rai al-Aam as saying her son Noureddine Zakaria "did not work with the Americans because he likes them but because he wanted to make a living and support his mother after the death of his father."

"My son was living in Jordan, but went to Iraq four months ago ... He called me last week from Ramadi to say that he found a job that will enable him to support me," Amina said.

She appealed to his kidnappers to release him unharmed, saying, "If you believe in God and his prophet, don't make me lose my only son and supporter in this life."

Zakaria went missing in Iraq Saturday. He was working as a translator for the U.S. company, Tyson.

Sudanese State Minister Tijani Fadil said the government was undertaking diplomatic contacts with the Iraqi authorities to secure the hostage's release.
