Keyes absent from Ill. GOP team

CHICAGO, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- The "2004 Republican Team" touted in mailers sent out by the Illinois GOP sidelined the man in the second-most important race: U.S. Senate candidate Alan Keyes.

Hundreds of thousands of glossy promotions, specialized for different regions of the state, tell recipients that "Your 2004 Republican Team" includes President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and other congressional and legislative candidates, without a single mention of the man who moved from Maryland to take on virtual Senate shoo-in Democrat Barack Obama, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Obama maintains a commanding lead over Keyes, enjoying strong support even among voters who identify themselves as Republican, while Keyes has failed to pick up the direct endorsement of Illinois Republican Party Chairwoman Judy Baar Topinka.
