NYPD interviews Sosa in stabbing case

CHICAGO, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Two NYPD detectives flew to Chicago to interview the Cubs' Sammy Sosa regarding a cousin in the Bronx who is wanted in the stabbing of his live-in girlfriend.

The detectives spoke with Sosa Saturday about his first cousin, Rudolfo Ramirez, who is accused of stabbing his girlfriend three times in their Soundview home Aug. 30, the New York Daily News reported.

"New York City detectives interviewed Mr. Sosa on Saturday to seek his assistance in determining the whereabouts of a cousin," NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Monday.

An unnamed source told the paper that Ramirez is "(Sosa's) first cousin. There was some thought he'd hit him up for cash to go on the run -- but he didn't."

Police said Sosa told them he hasn't heard from Ramirez in several years. Ramirez' girlfriend, whose name was withheld, is recovering from wounds to her neck, side and leg.
