NEW YORK, June 16 (UPI) -- Alanis Morissette, the Canadian singer-songwriter who gained fame with her angry 1995 post-relationship tune, "You Oughta Know," is engaged.
Morissette, 30, said boyfriend actor Ryan Reynolds asked her to marry him, Us Weekly reported. The couple has not yet set a date.
Morissette and Reynolds, who starred in "National Lampoon's Van Wilder," began dating through e-mail messages in 2002.
"I knew early on that he was someone I could spend the rest of my life with," she said. "I just feel like we're family and we're on this journey of evolving together. He's courageous, he'll talk about anything, he takes responsibility, he's just unbelievable."
Reynolds, 27, asked Morissette's parents for her hand in marriage without her knowledge.
"We were at home," she said of Reynolds' proposal. "It was very simple, pure and sweet -- and shocking!"
