Poll: Kerry has big lead in New York

NEW YORK, April 14 (UPI) -- New York state voters give George W. Bush a negative job approval rating in a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

Bush gets an approval rating of 40 percent positive 56 percent negative, his lowest ever in New York and would, if the election were held to today, lose the state to Sen. John F. Kerry, D-Mass.

The survey finds Kerry beating Bush in New York 53 percent to 36 percent and, with independent Ralph Nader included in the ballot test, by 49 percent to 35 percent. The poll also shows New York state residents oppose, by 51 percent to 35 percent, naming GOP Gov. George Pataki to the national ticket should Vice President Dick Cheney change course and not seek a second term.

The poll of 1,279 registered voters in New York state, was conducted from April 5 to April 12 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percent.
