Stewart asks friends to write to judge

NEW YORK, March 18 (UPI) -- Martha Stewart is asking about 100 friends and acquaintances to write on her behalf to the U.S. District Court judge who will determine her sentencing.

"If you would be so kind to write such a letter, please include your opinion of my character, my work ethic, my integrity and my probity," Stewart wrote, sources told CNN Thursday.

"If possible, include any memorable experiences you have had with me to explain the basis of any expressed opinion(s)."

The full letter was posted on gawker.com, CNN said.

U.S. District Court Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum is set to sentence Stewart on June 17. Legal experts expect Stewart to receive 10 to 18 months in prison for her conviction on four charges -- obstruction of justice, conspiracy and two counts of lying to federal investigators about her sale of ImClone stock.

"It is standard practice in the sentencing process to explain to people who have expressed interest in writing letters of support how to go about doing it," Stewart spokesperson George Sard said.
