FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Willie Williams of Miami, one of the most prized high school football players in the country, was released from a Florida jail Friday.
He was released until his criminal case is resolved, and so he can finish high school, The Miami Herald reported.
Williams, 19, faces charges of violation of probation, issued 18 months ago for stealing $3,800 worth of equipment from an electronics store. He has been arrested 10 times since he was 17 on theft-related charges.
He allegedly violated his probation two weeks ago on a recruiting trip to Florida by spraying a fire extinguisher and hugging a woman against her will.
The linebacker has signed a letter of intent with the University of Miami, but the university said it is on hold until Williams' legal status is determined.
Circuit Judge Michael Kaplan of Fort Lauderdale confined him to his home and school and required him to wear an ankle monitor.
