Lieberman nixes Dem's VP slot

WASHINGTON, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Presidential hopeful Sen. Joseph Lieberman ruled out Sunday the No. 2 slot on the Democratic ticket, saying been there, done that and no thank you.

The Connecticut Democrat, who shared the ticket with former Vice President Al Gore, brushed off the idea in an interview with "Fox News Sunday."

"No thanks," he said. "I mean, a great honor and opportunity in 2000. I've done it. I have no interest in running for vice president again."

Lieberman is running a distant fifth in the nine-person race for the Democratic Party standard, according to a Princeton Survey Research Associates poll for Newsweek.

The poll of 357 Democrats or Democratic-leaning voters Jan. 8-9, showed Lieberman at 7 percent against front-runner Howard Dean's 24 percent.

Lieberman is not contesting in the Jan. 19 Iowa caucuses and instead is concentrating of the New Hampshire primary later in the month.
