Dean racks up $15 million in 4th quarter

BURLINGTON, Vt., Jan. 1 (UPI) -- U.S. Democratic presidential hopeful and front-runner Howard Dean raised more than $15 million in the fourth quarter of 2003, his campaign announced Thursday.

This breaks his previous quarter's total of $14.8 million, CNN reported.

The Dean campaign's fund-raising total for 2003 is now more than $40 million, as the former governor of Vermont continues his push to win the party's nomination for its presidential candidate.

While likely to be the most money raised by any of the Democrats in the race, it pales in comparison to the $50 million raised by the Bush-Cheney re-election team in the third quarter alone.

Dean campaign manager Joe Trippi said on the campaign's Web site $414,540 in contributions came in Wednesday, pushing the total to $15,386,183.25.

Other candidates have yet to reveal their fund-raising numbers, which don't have to be reported until the end of January.
