Bush at Army hospital

WASHINGTON, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- President George W. Bush traveled to Walter Reed Army Medical Center Thursday for MRI scans of his knees before visiting with wounded troops.

The White House said Bush, an avid jogger, had been feeling occasional pain in his right knee and had changed his exercise regimen as a result. His personal physician had recommended magnetic resonance imaging scans, which provide three-dimensional views of the problem area.

Bush, 57, was previously scheduled to visit the hospital to meet privately with soldiers wounded or injured in Afghanistan and Iraq, a task he has performed in the past. He has also met with wounded Marines at the Bethesda Naval Hospital outside Washington.

Additionally, Bush planned to give a speech to medical personnel at the hospital.

Secretary of State Colin Powell is recovering in the hospital from prostate cancer surgery, but it was not immediately known if Bush would drop by for a visit.
