Opposition leader to leave hospital

YANGON, Myanmar, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Aung San Suu Kyi, the Myanmar opposition leader, is expected to be released from the hospital "within a day or two," her physician said Thursday.

She was described as having fully recovered from surgery she underwent last week. Dr. Tin Myo Win said he had removed the stitches and there were no complications or infections, Kyodo News Service reported.

"When she will be discharged depends on the authorities," he added.

Suu Kyi, while under detention at an undisclosed location in Yangon, was admitted to the private Asia Royal Hospital in Yangon on Sept. 17 for a uterus problem. On Friday she underwent three-hour surgery.

Suu Kyi has been held since what the junta claims was a clash between her supporters and pro-government demonstrators in northern Myanmar in May.
