Manchester United players poke fun at 'diving' in football during Middle East training

By Alex Butler

Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Three Manchester United players recently jumped off of a high dive, calling out players who dive during soccer games.

Chris Smalling, Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw took some time off from training with the Red Devils while they are in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. United is training in the Middle East before its match at 3 p.m. Monday against Stoke City at Old Trafford in Manchester, England.

"Diving in the modern game is a disgrace!" Smalling wrote for the caption on a social media video, which included the players screaming before they took the leaps of faith.

The Red Devils beat Derby County 2-0 on Friday in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Smalling recently told United Review that he wants to score more in 2018.

"I am disappointed I haven't had more goals this season," he said in the match day program. "Especially with my friends often saying that I get one good chance in most games. So, really, I should have had at least four or five already. I need to make sure I do a bit better in the second half of the campaign in terms of goalscoring form because, as defenders, ours are crucial to add the team."

"I am getting in those positions. I am often getting a chance a game now, so I think I will keep putting myself in there and, hopefully, help make an impact."

The Red Devils left on Monday for the five-day training camp in the Middle East.

"If we can have time to have a good, nice week to recover some injured players and tired players and, at the same time, work on some tactical details, then I think it would be good for the second part of the season," United manager Jose Mourinho told the team website.
