Chicago Bears to sign DE Yannick Ngakoue to $10.5M deal

Aug. 4 (UPI) -- The Chicago Bears and defensive end Yannick Ngakoue agreed to a $10.5 million deal in free agency.

Sources told NFL Network, ESPN and NBC Sports Chicago about the one-year agreement Thursday night. The 6-foot-2, 246-pound pass rusher spent last season with the Indianapolis Colts.

Ngakoue, 28, totaled 29 combined tackles, 9.5 sacks and a forced fumble in 15 starts last season for the Colts. He logged 28 combined tackles, a career-high 10 sacks, three passes defensed and two forced fumbles in 17 starts in 2021 for the Las Vegas Raiders.

He entered the league as a third-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2016 NFL Draft. The Jaguars traded Ngakoue to the Minnesota Vikings in 2020. The Vikings traded the defensive end to the Baltimore Ravens less than two months later.

Ngakoue signed with the Raiders the next off-season.

The veteran pass rusher totaled 202 combined tackles, 65 sacks, 21 forced fumbles, 13 passes defensed, three fumble recoveries, two interceptions and a touchdown over his first 110 career appearances.

The Bears will host the Tennessee Titans in their first preseason game at 1 p.m. EDT Aug. 12 in Chicago.
