March 12 (UPI) -- Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback and Super Bowl LV MVP Tom Brady signed a contract extension with the franchise, the team announced Friday. League sources told ESPN and NFL Media that it is a four-year extension that voids to a one-year extension. The Bucs didn't reveal details of Brady's agreement, which will tie him to the organization through the 2022 season.

The move saves the Buccaneers about $19 million against the salary cap this year, according to ESPN. The three voidable years in the back end of the deal are included in the agreement to further reduce his cap hit in 2021.
"When we acquired Tom a year ago, we were extremely excited about the leadership, poise and winning track record that he would bring to our locker room," Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht said in a statement Friday.
"Since that time, he has proven himself to be the ultimate competitor and delivered in every way we had imagined, helping us capture the Lombardi Trophy. Year after year, Tom proves that he remains one of the elite quarterbacks in this game and we couldn't be happier to keep him in Tampa Bay as we continue to pursue our goals together."
In a post on social media Friday, Brady indicated the extension was done to keep the Buccaneers' championship team intact. He also said he's ready to chase his eighth Super Bowl ring.
"In pursuit of 8," Brady wrote on Twitter. "We're keeping the band together."
The 43-year-old Brady previously said his goal was to play in the NFL until age 45. However, the 14-time Pro Bowl selection said during the week of the Super Bowl he would now consider playing beyond that age.
In his first season in Tampa, Brady won his seventh Super Bowl title, beating the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 in February.
