May 15 (UPI) -- Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt says he needs to earn back the trust of fans after a video of him assaulting a woman was released in November.

Hunt addressed reporters Wednesday for the first time since the Kansas City Chiefs cut him in November. He signed a one-year deal with the Browns this offseason.

"The only way is my actions, so just going to take it day by day," Hunt told reporters, according to NFL.com.

Hunt is suspended for the first eight games of the 2019 season. He is allowed to participate in organized team activities, training camp and preseason games before serving his suspension.

Hunt said he wants to apologize to the victim in the video, although he hasn't had a chance yet.

Although Hunt signed with Cleveland, he said he drew offers from a "few" teams. Hunt explained he was drawn to Cleveland because the Browns' general manager, John Dorsey, drafted him in Kansas City.

"We had a real special connection and he knows the type of person I am, and that wasn't me," Hunt said. "I mean, I definitely made a mistake and I apologize for it once again. And I told him I'm going to move forward and become a better person."

Hunt told reporters he has been spending time with local high schools to share his story.

"I'm just one of those guys who really don't like drama at all," he said. "So, I'm a guy who will go out in the community and do what I can for them. I've always done that stuff in the community."
