The Buffalo Bills signed quarterback Matt Barkley to a one-year deal, the team announced Wednesday. Barkley is expected to serve as Nathan Peterman's backup should fellow quarterback Derek Anderson be unable to start for the Bills (2-6) against the visiting Chicago Bears (4-3) on Sunday.

Anderson sustained a concussion during the latter stages of Monday's 25-6 setback versus the New England Patriots. The 35-year-old quarterback was signed three weeks ago with rookie Josh Allen -- the seventh overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft -- nursing an elbow injury.
Allen, who is listed at 6-foot-5 and 237 pounds, has completed 75-of-139 passes for 832 yards with two touchdowns and five interceptions this season.
Barkley is joining his sixth team since being selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. The 28-year-old spent the preseason with the Cincinnati Bengals before sustaining a left knee injury in the finale.
Listed at 6-foot-2 and 227 pounds, Barkley has completed 159-of-266 passes for 1,911 yards with eight touchdowns, 18 interceptions and a 63.7 quarterback rating.
Barkley spent two seasons with the Eagles and parts of others with the Arizona Cardinals (twice), Bears, San Francisco 49ers and the Bengals.
