Oct. 30 (UPI) -- New York Giants backup quarterback Kyle Lauletta was arrested on Tuesday in New Jersey.

Sources told N.J. Advance Media and the New York Daily News that Lauletta was arrested for a traffic violation while driving to practice in Weehawken.

Weehawken Police confirmed the arrest.

Sources with knowledge of the incident told N.J. Advance Media that the quarterback was attempting to make a right turn from the wrong lane in order to get onto Route 495 West. He was directed to keep going straight, but he made a right turn and nearly ran over an office. He was stopped by another officer on the on-ramp.

"We were made aware of the situation this morning, and we have been in contact with Kyle. We are still in the process of gathering information," Giants coach Pat Shurmur said in a statement. "This is obviously very disappointing."

The Giants have a Week 9 bye and face the San Francisco 49ers at 8:15 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
