Jaguars' Leonard Fournette sees 'big things' in Derrius Guice's future

One former LSU running back sees big things on the horizon for another as Leonard Fournette talked up former teammate Derrius Guice recently.

Washington selected Guice in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, and the Jacksonville Jaguars running back thinks the Redskins got a bargain.

"He's going to have a great year," the 23-year-old Fournette told the New Orleans Times-Picayune on Friday. "He always had the talent when I was there at LSU. He's a hard worker. He's a great kid. Big things are going to come for Derrius this year."

Fournette, who was the fourth overall pick of the Jaguars in the 2017 NFL Draft, also provided some words of wisdom for Guice as he enters his rookie season.

"I know that rookie year," Fournette said. "It's a long season from the draft then to minicamp and then to [training] camp and then the season. It's a long process."

The 5-foot-11, 220-pound Guice rushed for 1,251 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. He was even better as a sophomore, piling up 1,387 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.

Guice set school records for the longest run (96 yards) and rushing yards in one game (285).

A native of Baton Rouge, La., Guice left with a career average of 6.527 yards per carry, also an LSU record.

Guice left LSU with the fifth-highest rushing total in school history (3,074 yards), one spot behind Fournette (3,830 yards).

Fournette rushed for 1,040 yards and nine touchdowns and had 32 receptions for 302 yards and a receiving touchdown in 13 games for the Jaguars, who advanced to the AFC Championship Game before falling to the New England Patriots.
