Dallas Cowboys 'aren't there yet' on new deal for G Zack Martin

Four-time Pro Bowl guard Zack Martin is sitting out the Dallas Cowboys' organized team activities for a second straight week.

Martin wants a new contract and the Cowboys plan to accommodate him, team executive vice president Stephen Jones told ESPN on Tuesday.

"We just aren't there yet," said Jones, who added that he met with agent Tom Condon within the past two weeks to discuss a contract extension. "We'll continue to roll up our sleeves and go to work on it. We understand this is the hard part of our business. Nobody wants to have Zack signed more than we do.

"We think he's one of the best offensive linemen in the league. Certainly we think the best offensive guard in the league [and] should be paid accordingly."

Martin, 27, is set to play this season on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract. He will earn a base salary of $9.3 million.

A first-round draft pick (No. 16 overall) in 2014, Martin has started all 16 games in each of his four seasons, earning first-team All-Pro honors both as a rookie and in 2016.

While the 6-foot-4, 315-pound Martin is expected to attend the Cowboys' mandatory three-day minicamp on June 12-14, Jones declined to offer a timetable for getting a new contract done.

"It's just a matter of structures and by how much and that type of thing," said Jones. "No one respects what Zack has done for this team more than we do."
