Chicago Bears LB Roquan Smith: Most of stolen items recovered by police

Chicago Bears first-round pick Roquan Smith said in a video post on Twitter that a majority of his personal belongings were recovered and returned by police.

Smith, who was the eighth overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, was the victim of theft over the weekend in Athens, Ga.

Taken from the linebacker's car were a team-issued iPad as well as his Rose Bowl and national championship jerseys. The Bears told the Chicago Tribune on Tuesday that the iPad was wiped clean remotely, which resulted in no compromise of team information.

"I would personally like to thank everyone for their kind words and prayers as Athens-Clarke County Police Department worked very hard to identify the individual responsible for this," Smith said on social media Wednesday. "It was definitely huge. I would also like to thank many of you that spread information on various social media outlets.

"Due to the prompt attention by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, I was able to recover most of my items as well as the individual being identified. Just like to thank you guys so much."

Also taken from Smith's car were a 2017 University of Georgia football helmet, a Georgia "Athlete of the Year" trophy, four pairs of Bose headphones, a Bose Bluetooth speaker, two watches, a pair of Costa sunglasses and a pair of Nike athletic shoes.

Athens-Clarke County Police public information officer Epifanio Rodriguez told the Chicago Tribune that they were able to identify a suspect thanks to a fingerprint.

Smith helped lead Georgia to the national championship game last season, winning the Butkus Award as the top linebacker in college football.

The 6-foot-1, 236-pound Smith amassed 137 tackles, including 14 for loss, 6.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries during his stellar junior season. He clocked a 4.51 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.
