The Philadelphia Eagles recorded their first Super Bowl title in franchise history in historic fashion, and they did it in front of a massive television audience. The Eagles' 41-33 victory over the defending champion New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII on Sunday in Minneapolis received an overnight rating of 47.4 for NBC, according to data released by The Nielsen Company.

Nielsen takes the percentage of households watching in 56 United States markets and comes up with an average. Therefore, a 47.4 rating means Nielsen estimates that 47.4 percent of households in those markets tuned in for the contest.
The 47.4 mark is slightly down from last year's overnight rating after the Patriots overcame a 25-point deficit to upend the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI. Nielsen later estimated that 111.3 million people in the United States had watched that game.
The overnight rating of Sunday's contest ranks ninth among all Super Bowls and is the third best in the 19 Super Bowls that NBC has televised.
Sunday's game was naturally a hit in Philadelphia, with its 56.2/81 mark ranking as the market's best for a Super Bowl. The Eagles had lost their previous two Super Bowl appearances, including one to the Patriots.
Sunday's contest drew a 55.9/81 rating serving as fourth-best among the 10 Patriots' Super Bowl appearances.
Sunday's high-scoring game, which was highlighted by the most yards in any contest in NFL history, peaked with a 52.2/74 overnight rating in the fourth quarter.
