Falcons' Matt Bryant, 42, plans to keep kicking

Matt Bryant will turn 43 in May and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, but the veteran kicker has no plans to walk away from the game anytime soon.

Why would he?

Bryant tied his career high by nailing 34 field goals (on 39 attempts) during the regular season and converted all five attempts in the postseason for the Atlanta Falcons.

Not too shabby for a 42-year-old in his 16th NFL season.

"I know I am capable," Bryant said, per the Falcons' official website. "I've proven it. I am ready to play -- I'll play two, three more years in this league. There's obviously some curious times ahead to see where those two, three years happen.

"You know I'd like to finish it here with this organization. I guess I have a history here, so I'd like to finish it up here. But you don't know."

Bryant has spent the past nine seasons with Atlanta and has converted at least 90 percent of his field goal chances four times in that span.

During the Falcons' run to the Super Bowl in 2016, Bryant was 34 of 37 -- with two of his misses coming from 50 yards or longer. He has missed one extra point during his tenure with Atlanta.

With 15 unrestricted free agents, the Falcons face a number of roster decisions, but Bryant doesn't want his age to be a factor in any plans.

"Obviously I recognize I'm an elder statesman in the league," said Bryant. "You know, whenever I go out to kick a ball, the ball never asks how old I am. And the goalposts, they could care less. You know, my job is to kick the ball through the uprights."
