Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer prevented one of his assistant coaches from joining the Tennessee Titans by giving him a promotion, but another member of his staff reportedly will take a job with the NFL club.

New Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, a former player and assistant coach with the Buckeyes, is adding Ohio State defensive backs coach Kerry Coombs to his staff, Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports reported Wednesday.

Earlier this week, Ohio State promoted Ryan Day to offensive coordinator after the Titans reportedly tried to bring him to Tennessee.

Coombs has been on Ohio State's coaching staff since 2012. He served as assistant coordinator of the defense, and he also was the Buckeyes' cornerbacks coach and special teams coordinator.

Buckeyes defensive backs Marshon Lattimore and Gareon Conley were first-round picks in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Coombs has never held an NFL job, and has never coached outside the state of Ohio.

Coombs was a high school coach from 1983 through 2006, then joined the University of Cincinnati staff before taking the job at Ohio State.
