Steve Smith threatens to beat up Michael Irvin after pants dis

Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin filmed an apology for Steve Smith after he made fun of his pants live on the air.

The two former Pro Bowl pass catchers got into an exchange last week on NFL Network after Irvin made a dig at Smith's dress slacks.

"Steve, I apologize. My wife loves you and she got mad at me for messing with you. She's going to make me sleep on the couch if I mess with you anymore so I'm not going to say anything about those pants that you have on."

"I'm not going to say anything about those pants," Irvin repeated, while laughing.

Smith responded immediately.

"You know Mike, I'm really emotional right now," Smith said. "When I come to L.A., I'm going to whoop your [expletive]."

But Smith didn't appear to be joking, as he never cracked a smile after the threat.

Irvin laughed off the threat.

"I'm going to just whoop your [expletive]...I got no time for this," Smith added.

The duo was working a Thursday Night Football matchup between the Miami Dolphins and Baltimore Ravens.

"Hey listen man," Irvin said in a video posted to his Twitter account on Thursday. "I want you to understand, I was just joking with Steve Smith. I love him. I am wearing the suit. A whole suit that looks just like his pants looked. I was just having fun with him. I don't want him to beat me up."

"Steve, you know I love you man. I'm sorry. I really am sorry. I was just having locker room boys fun. So I wore this suit to really show you that I'm sorry. And I love you brother. Steve Smith. Agent 89. 88 and 89, we together forever. Love you brother."

Smith, 38, retired this offseason following his 16th NFL campaign. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound pass catcher was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time All-Pro. He played 13 seasons for the Carolina Panthers before ending his career with the Baltimore Ravens.

Irvin, 51, was a five-time Pro Bowler and was once named as an All-Pro. The 6-foot-2, 207-pound Hall of Famer played his entire 12-year career for the Dallas Cowboys, winning three Super Bowls.
