Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Veteran running back Stevan Ridley has signed with the Minnesota Vikings.

Minnesota announced the signing on Thursday morning. The Vikings placed rookie sensation Dalvin Cook on injured reserve in a corresponding transaction. Cook was injured in Sunday's loss to the Detroit Lions when he suffered a torn ACL in the third quarter.

He is out for the season.

Ridley, 28, had seven yards on three carries in one game last season for the Atlanta Falcons. He entered the NFL as a third-round pick by the New England Patriots in the 2011 NFL Draft. Ridley has 2,914 yards and 22 touchdowns on 688 career carries. He also has 22 catches for 144 yards.

He was a 1,000-yard rusher in 2012, when he ran for 1,263 yards and 12 scores in 16 games for the Patriots. He also started 12 games that season. Ridley left the Patriots for the New York Jets in 2015. He spent the 2017 training camp with the Denver Broncos but was released during final roster cuts. The Vikings brought in Ridley for a workout on Wednesday.
