Winless New York Giants searching for answers after loss to Tampa Bay Buccaneers

TAMPA, Fla. -- The New York Giants are running out of ways to describe their winless plight.

Following Sunday's 25-23 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, when a roller-coaster fourth quarter was capped with a 34-yard game-winning field goal by Bucs kicker Nick Folk as time expired, the Giants locker room was reduced to whispers and stunned expressions.

"I don't know what the word is," said quarterback Eli Manning, whose team fell to 0-4. "Frustrated? In a sense. I feel like we're doing some good things. It's just we're not playing our best football.

"It's surprising. We still have a good team. We're doing some good things, but we're not making enough plays to win the game. In this league, you have to earn it."

Last week, the Giants tied the Philadelphia Eagles with a 24-point fourth quarter, but Eagles rookie kicker Jake Elliott won it on a 61-yard field goal.

"I'm not surprised, I'm not shocked," Giants head coach Ben McAdoo said. "I'm disappointed, irritated. We're going to stay together. All we have is us.

"I'm irritated that we're 0-4, but we need to go to work. That's how you fix it."

The Giants rallied from a 13-point first-quarter deficit and twice took the second-half lead, but it wasn't enough.

"We thought we were in a good spot," guard Justin Pugh said. "After (Folk) missed those field goals (of 46 and 49 yards earlier in the game), I was feeling pretty confident that if he had a long field goal, he wouldn't make it.

"Both games (including last week's loss at Philadelphia) are just heartbreaking. We're two field goals away from being 2-2."

Instead, the Giants are 0-4.

"Every game -- if it's not a blowout -- comes down to either a field goal or a touchdown," rookie running back Wayne Gallman said. "We just have to polish up and get ready for next week."
