Ken Zampese: Cincinnati Bengals fire offensive coordinator, give job to Bill Lazor

Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Bill Lazor has assumed offensive coordinator duties for the Cincinnati Bengals after the team fired Ken Zampese.

Cincinnati announced the move on Friday.

"I am grateful for this opportunity to serve the Bengals organization as offensive coordinator," Lazor said in a team news release. "There is a lot of football ahead of us this season and we are excited to make this a productive year."

The Bengals have not scored a touchdown through two games this season, including Thursday night's 13-9 loss to the Houston Texans at Paul Brown Stadium.

"Ken Zampese has done a tremendous job for us for my 15 years here, and I have the utmost respect for Ken as a person and as a coach," Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said.

"But I feel it best for the football team to breathe new life into the offense, and that's why I am making the change. Bill Lazor has great experience in the league and as a coordinator, and I feel Bill can progress our offense the way we need. We have a lot of talent on offense, and we need to keep working to take full advantage of the personnel we have."

Lazor was an offensive coordinator and/or quarterbacks coach for the Washington Redskins, Seattle Seahawks, Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins before joinging the Bengals in 2016 as an assistant coach.

Cincinnati currently ranks No. 22 in total offense.
