Matt Jones: Indianapolis Colts waive former Washington Redskins running back

Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Running back Matt Jones has been waived for the second time this season, despite not playing a regular season game.

The Indianapolis Colts announced the transaction on Saturday morning. Jones, 24, entered the NFL as a third round pick by the Washington Redskins in the 2015 NFL Draft. He piled up 794 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns during his rookie campaign, splitting work with Alfred Morris and Chris Thompson.

Jones had 460 yards and three scores on 99 carries in seven games last season for the Redskins, averaging 4.6 yards per carry. He was waived by the Redksins on Sept. 2. The Colts claimed Jones on Sept. 3. He had 13 carries for 32 yards this preseason.

The Colts promoted guard Adam Redmond to their 53-man roster from the practice squad in a corresponding move.

Redmond is listed at 6-foot-6, 300 pounds. He signed with the Colts' practice squad on Sept. 3. Redmond was with the Colts through their 2017 offseason program and training camp but was waived on Sept. 2. He signed a reserve/future contract with the team in January.

The Harvard product joined the Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2016. He spent the 2016 season on the team's practice squad.
