San Francisco 49ers sign linebacker Jayson DiManche

Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Linebacker Jayson DiManche has signed a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers.

The 49ers announced the new contract on Saturday.

DiManche, 26, originally entered the NFL in 2013 as an undrafted free agent, signing by the Cincinnati Bengals. He registered 13 tackles, a pass defended and 15 special teams tackles in 28 games for the Bengals. He started once in his two seasons with the franchise.

The Bengals cut DiManche on Sept. 11, 2015. He then joined the Kansas City Chiefs before appearing in one game for the Cleveland Browns. He was released on Dec. 31 by the Browns, before rejoining the Bengals' practice squad early last year. He spent 2016 training camp with the Bengals before being released in August of 2016. He then signed on with the Detroit Lions before being released days later.

The 6-foot-1, 235-pound linebacker originally signed with the 49ers on April 7 but was released on May 2.

DiManche had 145 tackles in 35 games for Southern Illinois University. He will wear No. 46 for the 49ers.

DiManche fills the roster spot left by wide receiver Bruce Ellington, who was waived last week. The New York Jets also recently waived Ellington with a failed physical designation.

San Francisco recently lost linebacker Malcolm Smith for the year due to a torn pectoral.
