Jarvis Landry won't be angry if he doesn't get deal from Miami Dolphins, hits free agency

June 21 (UPI) -- Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry will go quiet on contract talks once the regular season starts, according to his agent.

Damarius Bilbo told the Miami Herald that his client would "absolutely not" be upset if the franchise doesn't extend his current contract before the season begins. The two-time Pro Bowl selection had 94 catches for 1,136 yards and four touchdowns in 2016. He had 110 catches for 1,157 yards and four scores in his sophomore season. The second-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft played in every game during the Dolphins' rare run into the post season last year.

Bilbo told the Herald that Landry would "love" to spend the remainder of his career with the franchise.

Landry has 288 receptions in his career, an identical number to former LSU teammate Odell Beckham Jr. That number amounts to the most catches for any player in league history through their first three seasons.

But unlike Beckham, Landry was always present this offseason for the Dolphins. He showed up at OTAs and minicamp.

"No, that [skipping voluntary OTAs] didn't cross my mind at all," Landry said on May 31. "My whole objective was to help my team get to the Super Bowl. That starts with me being here, first of all. I'm not really worried about any contract or anything like that. I'm more focused on trying to help my team get to the Super Bowl, week-in and week-out, playing hard, playing well, playing together."

He also said that adding Julius Thomas, re-signing Kenny Stills and the presence of the Dolphins' current offensive skill players gives the Dolphins "endless" potential.

Landry is highly respected by his teammates. Safety Michael Thomas called him "The best slot receiver in the NFL" during Dolphins OTAs.

The Herald reported that although Bilbo did not discuss Landry's asking price, it wouldn't be surprising for it to be up to $11 million annually. That number would sit between salaries for Larry Fitzgerald, Emmanuel Sanders and Tavon Austin, according to OverTheCap.com.

Landry's current $893,850 salary this season is about $118,000 more than that of Leonte Caroo. He will make $1.82 million less than DeVante Parker and $7.1 million less than Stills. Neither Stills, Parker, nor Caroo has ever made a Pro Bowl.
