Minnesota Vikings axe three players from roster

May 4 (UPI) -- The Minnesota Vikings cut a trio of players Thursday, days after it signed 13 rookie free agents.

Defensive tackle Sterling Bailey, tackle Marquis Lucas and safety Cedric Thompson were among the moves announced Thursday by the NFC North franchise.

Bailey, 24, was in his second season out of Georgia. He signed with the Colts last season as a rookie free agent after making 20 starts for the Bulldogs. Bailey played on the practice squad for the Colts, Seattle Seahawks and Vikings in 2016.

Lucas was entering his second year out of West Virginia. The former Mountaineers offensive lineman joined the Buffalo Bills in 2016 as a rookie free agent. He was cut in September. He was a member of the Vikings' practice squad last season.

Thompson was playing in his third year out of Minnesota. He was picked by the Miami Dolphins with the No. 150 overall selection in the 2015 NFL Draft and later signed a four-year contract with the team. He was cut four months later. Thompson, 24, spent the 2016 season on the Vikings' practice squad. He brother Tedric was drafted Saturday by the Seahawks in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He played safety at Colorado.

Minnesota exercised linebacker Anthony Barr's fifth-year option Monday. The Vikings begin rookie mini-camp this weekend at Winter Park in Eden Prairie, Minn.
