May 1 (UPI) -- Free agent Jamaal Charles will visit the Denver Broncos on Tuesday, according to sources.

ESPN and NFL Network reported that the former Kansas City Chiefs star would make the stop.

ESPN reported that if Charles passes his physical and the team gives a positive prognosis, the franchise is expected to try and work out a contract with the running back.

The Chiefs cut Charles in February, following a very productive nine-year tenure with the franchise.

Charles, 30, is a two-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowl selection. He tallied at least 1,300 yards from scrimmage in five of six seasons from 2009 through 2014. He had a career-high 1,980 yards from scrimmage and league-best 19 touchdowns in 2013.

His struggles over the last two seasons have been tied to injury. Charles has played just eight games since the end of the 2014 season. He tore the ACL in his right leg in 2015 and had meniscus surgery on the same leg in November. He also had a procedure done on his left knee.

Charles also visited the Seattle Seahawks in March, but left without signing a contract. He has also been linked to the Philadelphia Eagles.

C.J. Anderson, Devontae Booker, De'Angelo Henderson, and Bernard Pierce currently stock the Broncos' depth chart at running back.

The Broncos signed Pierce in January, traded Kapri Bibbs to the San Francisco 49ers last weekend, and picked Henderson in the NFL Draft on Saturday out of Coastal Carolina.

Anderson, 26, signed with the Broncos in 2013 as an undrafted free agent. He ran for 437 yards and four touchdowns on 110 attempts last season through seven games before landing on injured reserve with a torn meniscus. He will be a full participant in the Broncos' offseason workout program.
