New England Patriots QB Tom Brady receives $14 million deferred signing bonus

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was set to receive a $14 million deferred signing bonus on Friday as part of the contract extension he signed in 2016.

Brady's deal called for a signing bonus of $28 million, split into two $14 million payments. He received the first installment when he signed the extension.

Brady's 2017 salary will be a bargain price. He is slated to make just $1 million.

Brady is under contract through the 2019 season. He is currently scheduled to make $14 million in both the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

Those figures could drop as the Patriots often renegotiate deals in which players receive less base salary in exchange for bonuses, often the same type of deferred bonus that Brady was to receive on Friday.
