Roger Goodell reportedly was not happy when he saw New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia taking a shot at him by wearing a T-shirt that depicted the NFL commissioner as a clown.

An unnamed ownership source told Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports that the T-shirt upset Goodell, who also wasn't too pleased with Patriots owner Robert Kraft and how the Patriots handled their victory in Super Bowl LI.

"The T-shirt really bothered him," one ownership source who had been in contact with the league told La Canfora. "The fact that Kraft didn't stop (Patricia) from wearing that ticked some people off, but did they really think he's going to protect Goodell after all of this?"

Goodell, who suspended quarterback Tom Brady for four games to open the 2016 season over the Deflategate scandal, was booed Sunday night as he presented Kraft with the Lombardi Trophy at NRG Stadium in Houston after the Patriots' stunning 34-28 overtime victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

After Goodell handed Kraft the Lombardi Trophy onstage Sunday night, the Patriots owner said: A lot has transpired over the last two years. And I don't think that needs any explanation. But I want to say to our fans, to our brilliant coaching staff, our amazing players who were so spectacular: This is unequivocally the sweetest."

The anti-Goodell sentiment continued when the Patriots returned home Monday afternoon with Patricia getting off the plane wearing a Barstool Sports-created T-shirt showing Goodell's face sporting a clown nose.
