New England Patriots veteran defensive end Chris Long took to social media to declare that he planned to skip the championship team's customary trip to the White House.

Long's voyage on Twitter was in response to the New York Daily News' Chuck Modiano, who wrote an open letter urging the 31-year-old to skip the traditional visit. Long provided his answer, but took issue with Modiano's tone in the open letter.

"Oh Chuck. Planned on skipping, hadn't been asked. Don't need an open letter explaining my own words to me. Not *joining* anyone. My call," Long wrote.

Long likely won't be alone as tight end Martellus Bennett, defensive back Devin McCourty and linebacker Dont'a Hightower indicated that they will skip the visit as long as Donald Trump is in office.
