Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Even Johnny Manziel's workouts are 'illegal,' according to a report.

The free agent quarterback allegedly worked out in January for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, according to the Hamilton Spectator's partner website, 3DownNation. The alleged workout took place in Florida prior to the Senior Bowl.

But Roughriders general manager Chris Jones denies the event occurred and said the team is now considering "legal action" against the website that made the report, according to Gary Lawless.

"The Saskatchewan Roughriders have not held or attended a workout involving Johnny Manziel," Chris Jones said in a statement released by the team. "With that, I will not be commenting further on the report."

Canadian Football League spokesperson Paulo Senra is investigating the report.

Manziel is on the negotiation list of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and it is forbidden for another team to contact him. Saskatchewan did not have permission to have the workout and has denied that it took place. Manziel's spokesperson also denied the report, according to TSN.

Manziel, 24, completed 147-of-258 passes for 1,675 yards, seven touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 15 NFL games. He had eight career starts in two season for the Cleveland Browns, before being released.

In August, commissioner Jeffrey Orridge said the CFL would welcome Manziel if he "could assure the league that he would be an appropriate fit for its culture," according to ESPN.

The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner allegedly sobered up this offseason without professional assistance.
