The terms of Collins' contract were not released by the team, but multiple outlets are reporting the deal is worth $50 million.

"I want to thank the Cleveland Browns organization for giving me this opportunity," Collins said in a statement. "From the day I walked in the door, I felt welcomed by my new teammates and everyone in this organization."

Collins, 27, totaled 69 tackles and two sacks after being acquired by the Browns for a conditional 2017 third-round draft pick in the Oct. 31 trade with the Patriots.

He totaled 112 tackles, three sacks, three passes defensed and a pair of interceptions in 15 games this season.

"It's no secret how I feel about Jamie Collins," Browns coach Hue Jackson said. "He's an outstanding football player and a guy we think can be part of the foundation of a tremendous defense. I was excited when we were able to trade for him last season, and now I'm even more excited knowing that he is going to part of our future."

Collins, the 52nd-overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft by New England, was a first-time Pro Bowler in 2015 with the Patriots after amassing 89 tackles, a career-high 5 1/2 sacks and six passes defensed. He was a member of New England's Super Bowl XLIX-winning team in the 2014-15 campaign.

In four seasons, Collins has totaled 360 tackles and 12 1/2 sacks in 58 games.

"Jamie has shown throughout his NFL career that he is a very talented player with a rare skill set that allows him to impact games in a number of ways," Cleveland executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown said. "He's a versatile, smart, competitive and physical football player who has experienced winning at the highest level."

Brown added that the Browns will be "aggressive" about acquiring talent going forward. Cleveland finished with a league-worst 1-15 record this season and owns the first overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

"The past is the past as far as last season's record, but today is a new day," Collins said. "I'm only looking forward. I know we have a lot of work to do, and with Coach Hue leading us and the front office bringing in talent, I feel like we are going to get there and I feel good about continuing my career here."
