SAN DIEGO, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- His sophomore season was sensational before he was carted off in Week 14 with knee and hip sprains.
But San Diego Chargers' Melvin Gordon could return for the season finale.
Gordon called himself a game-time call for when the Chargers take on the Kansas City Chiefs at 4:25 p.m. Sunday at Qualcomm Stadium.
"I'm close, I'm close," Gordon told reporters Tuesday. "Like I said, I'm making strides so, it'll probably be a game-day decision or whatever the case may be. I've been getting after it. I'm definitely headed in the right direction."
"My expectation is to get out there. That's what we are aiming for right now. I'm thirsty to get in. I need to get in there."
Melvin Gordon, Denzel Perryman and Orlando Franklin are all on a day to day basis.

Kenneth Farrow will be placed on IR.
Gordon, 23, had 997 yards and 10 touchdowns on 254 carries before suffering the injury. He also had 419 yards and two scores on 41 receptions. He did not practice Tuesday. Gordon is due $1.4 million next season and is a free agent in 2019.
